Goverdhan pooja
In five day Long festival of Diwali, Goverdhan Pooja is
celebrated on 4th day that is next morning to diwali. And it falls
in the shukal pakash and in the month of kartik and according to the English calendar
it falls in the month of October and November .
And it is also called padwa or varshpatdva. It is celebrated all over the
India, but with very zeal and enthusiasm it is celebrated in north India. And it
is also referred as annakoot ( Ann means food and koot means mountain ).
Legend-
This day is celebrated from Dwapar Yug. There is saying
behind this that before this day people Used to worship Lord Indra ( The God of
Rain ) because they used to feel that Indra Gives them the rain and with that they can plough their fields and can survive. But Lord Krsihna ( Who is believed to be
the creator of this world ) told people not to worship Indra as Indra just gives
you rain and whereas Go Dhan ( That is Milk, Cow and waste of cow ) is very
useful and helps us and also protects our environment . And people starting
worshiping Goverdhan. With this Lord Indra became very Anger and threatened people
to give a very big storm of rain. But Lord Krishna lifted the goverdhan Mountain on little finger of right hand and
people took shelter under that mountain.
And it is also believed that Lord Krishna told people to
worship goverdhan not to dis respect Indra but to aware people about the
importance of Go Dhan.
Rituals / pooja to be performed on Goverdhan-
Goverdhan Is a small hillock situated at braj near Mathura.
People Make Heap of grains or of Gober . On this day people wear new clothes
and understand the importance of Food. And devis are given New Dress, and also milk Bath is given and deities are decorated with the ornaments and also food is
offered to devis. And after that pooja people distribute food to poor People as
well. The pooja Rituals may vry significantly across the Nation but if you want
